Marais Family
I received an email from Marian asking if she can still purchase some of the photos we took of her family back in 2018. She told me her story and as to why she's wanting to get hold of those images just now. It was when she said her husband is currently battling a disease and by not purchasing those images it was something she deeply regret. So, Lisa and I decided to offer them a Returning Family Offer, in that way not only they can have their old family portraits but also have a current one because Lleynard would've been two years older since their first shoot with us. It was such a humbling experience yet also inspirational for us to be photographing Marian's family. As I was photographing them, it showed me how strong yet vulnerable they are at the time. At such a young age, Lleynard understands everything and to see him still be himself throughout this is so amazing. Marian was just as strong like her son but there were moments that she gets teary and I can tell that she was savouring those moments. However, she stayed strong the entire time, just like what she has been doing for the past months. She's doing everything that she can for her family and that to me is something to be admired. Then Chris, his demeanor that day was nothing but commendable. He pushed through even though sometimes he's getting out of breath, he still made sure to smile even though he's tired. This experience we had with the Marais family is so humbling. As a photographer it is our duty to capture moments you have with your family, to encapsulate those memories so that in the future, you can be reminded of the love you had with your family and how strong and solid you were in good times and bad. To Marais family, with all the times we spent with you, were sure to see you guys again in no time with Chris overcoming his battle and Lleynard telling us his jokes again, whether it’s good or bad.
